Hello again. Its now getting on in to winter in New Zealand and I am looking forward to getting up to Mt Hutt and down to Queenstown for a play on the slopes. Broadcast Media has been busy shooting corporates and current affairs and reality shows for many clients. We  currently have all but finished  installing a new computer system to give us more network storage this involves a great deal of moving data...sigh....We have a new central Dell Dual Quad Core Xeon server with full Raid backup. This will also include offsite storage of important client files. We understand the huge responsibility placed on companies now to protect clients data not only from damage or loss but also from cyber snooping and malicious attacks.

For these reasons we have installed the latest hardware firewall technology to protect our FTP server. Clients can breathe easy knowing that their asset is protected while it is in our care. When clients spend thousands of dollars on a production it can be so easy to lose that valuable irreplaceable data. Our duplicate client data is stored offsite ensuring its safety in the event of fire.
We have a system in place that follows and tracks ALL tape or digital data from the minute it is released out of the camera to its storage and ultimate delivery to the client. Whether it be shooting onsite and handing over tapes to clients at the end of the day or transporting that data back to our edit suite we have checks and balances in place to account for the raw footage or "rushes"  All our film crews and TV Crews follow this process.
We keep backups in archives at the direction of our client for up to 12 months after the delivery of the product. When it comes to destroying the data when the client orders it, we overwrite the hard drive with very complex alogrithims to effectively wipe the data offering our client piece of mind that their data has been deleted properly. This storage is a service offered by Broadcast Media to all our clients and best of all its FREE.

The first post for the year seeings its been over 12 months since the last I better make it a good one! Ipromise I will make them more frequent now. This is my updated webpage that is a lot easier to edit..
What a productive year its been. We have been crewing and directing such shows as Wild Vets on TV1 this month, Hitched which is halfway through its season on TV3, Maori Television Te Kaea, Code, Prime News, TV3 News and many many corporates who sent us to all parts of the world filming.
Our plant has been updated again we now have Avid Media Composer as our flagship editing program and have added a staggering 15 Terabytes of storage to our system. A new server has been installed and we have upload and download speeds of 4 Megabits.
Broadcast Media's support and live truck is inching closer to a reality with the final decision next month on what vehicle it will be. It will include on site editing, 2 Megabit  satellite internet connection, VOIP Phones, cordless phones, wireless access point, and grip/rigging equipment. Our trusty old "Duck Truck" is still around and currently used as a support vehicle for big shoots.
Late last year we upgraded our oldest camera kit and replaced it with a shiny new XDHD Sony camera. We also have two new Miller carbon fible tripods. This kit is the first of 5 upgrades we are making over the next two years (at a reasonably heavy cost too)
We have new IP Star portable satellite equipment for oue news operation so we can FTP our pictures almost immediately to our clients. Four years ago the New Zealand Government promised investment in Broadband Technology and this is now coming to fruition here in New Zealand. Our domestic broadband is now a schorching 14 Megabit download.
With broadband geting faster and more available to everyone we also are adopting the FTP way of sending our video. We can deliver in the field with Laptops using the Telecom or Vodafone 3G network, satellite IP or SNG uplink.  We run a modern HP FTP server at our office with Raid redundancy and back up UPS. This ensures piece of mind for data storage. We store client data securely on and off site. with 15 Terrabytes of data storage you have a lot at stake so backup is a critical precedure we do.
We purchased a Polycom video conference system for hire to cater for our corporate clients who want conference style live video. These machines can work as standalone or as a portal with multiple cameras connected.
www.broadcastmedia.tv  is another domain name linked to our site. We liked the dot TV end similar to the nzcews.tv name. The dot TV is actually the island nation of Tuvalu's internet ID but they sold it to the world because noty many people in Tuvalu were in need of it! So the domain names a being snapped up by TV companies the world over.
Well here's to another successful year for Broadcast Media happy clients and happy staff.

8 May 2009

It has been over 12 months since my last update and we have been busy as usual. We have no noticed the recession in New Zealand. There has been a little slow down in news and current affairs but corporate and production is still busy. We have a new logo along with new corporate colours. The new logo is on display above. The website is going to have a revamp this within the next two months and our streaming website will be up and running as well. www.livemedia.co.nz. Our editing system has been updated now with a new faster machine Intel Quad Core with nearly 10 terabytes of storage available. We are fast approaching winter in New Zealand and I personally am excited about the up and coming Ski season, as I look out my window I see the Southern Alps here in Christchurch coated with a healthy smattering of fresh snow. Roll on ski season!

26 April 2008

Well we are sorry for the big gap in the news front about Broadcast Media. We have been very busy plugging away at  all our contracts filming and editing for our broadcast customers and even OB work for corporate customers. We have upgraded our editing system to Avid Media Composer as well as upgrading our editing PC to the new grunty Quad core processor. We now have 6 Terabytes of storage along with a full Raid backup system and a guaranteed 4Megabit internet connection at our office. We run a fully operational FTP server for our clients to download and upload video and graphics directly to our server. This saves precious time when we are editing to a deadline.  We recently finished a project to a very tight timeframe where the filming was completed in New Zealand, the CD Flash media content was completed in London, and the client was in France! A timezone nightmare trying liase with everyone. Our FTP server was extremely useful in saving time here. 500 CD Giveaway copies were delivered to the air show in England on time. A happy client and a teamwork success al round.

Lookout for our new website starting soon www.livemedia.co.nz

23 October 2007

It's been a while since I last wrote some news. We have been very busy with various shows like Auction House, Special Investigators, and servicing our news and current afffairs customers which include TV3, Prime, Maori Television. Broadcast media does have a new mode of transport to add to our livery. A Cessna 172M 4 seat aircraft. With the registration marks of ZK-DVP (our old company name). This means that our crews can travel quicker to those "out of town shoots" Which include fantastic times like 20 Minutes ChCh to Ashburton and 45 minutes ChCh to Blenheim! The aircraft is based in a hanger at Wigram which is 5 minutes drive from our building in Michelle Road. I fly and I also have several Pilots available in case I am tied up. Heres a Pic of our plane parked  up at a grass airstrip at Rangitata Island near Ashburton

4 May 2006 NZ Govt announces cheaper broadband access for all

Broadcast Media welcome the decision the New Zealand government have made to "unbundle" the local loop that our major telecommunications operator has had a monopoly on for may years. With this decision now being made it means production companies like ourselves and many others all over New Zealand can now have a choice of who we can use for our broadband access in a much more competitive market. This will also enable us to pass our savings on to our customers.

Broadcast Media use broadband extensively it is a major part of television production. We often have to FTP or Stream large video files to customers across town and acrosss the world we will now be able to achieve that more quickly and cheaper in a very competitive international marketplace.

23 Jan 2006 Spamming and "Spoofers"

Unfortunately our company has been a target of Spoofers. Unscrupulous people who send

spam and junk email and falsely use another innocent domain name as the return address.

Our "DVP" domain has been targeted. We have noted a number of emails circulating with our main return address on them as the reply to email.

We are sorry if you have come to this site in search of the dreaded spammers. It is NOT us. We are just victims of spoofers. But if we do find the culprits we will prosecute to the full extent of the law.
